Platinum Jubilee: Elizabeth II and her 70 years as monarch of the United Kingdom 👑🇬🇧

From June 2 to 5, it will be celebrated throughout the United Kingdom, although mainly in the streets of London, the 70th anniversary of the accession to the throne of Elizabeth II, being the second sovereign with the longest reign after Louis XIV of France who reigned for 72 years and 110 days.

In this note I will try to mark some of the most important events that Elizabeth II experienced during her mandate.

. On February 6, 1952, her father, King George V, passed away and Elizabeth became Queen at just 25 years old, becoming Queen of the United Kingdom and head of the Commonwealth of Nations.

. On June 2, 1953, her official coronation was performed at Westminster Abbey.

. In 1954 she began her first tour of the Commonwealth as Queen.

. On October 26, 1965, she awarded the Empire medal to the rock band The Beatles.

.4 May 1979 Margaret Thatcher becomes the first female prime minister in the country's history.

July 29, 1981, her son Carlos marries Lady Diana Frances Spencer at St. Paul's Cathedral in London.

.on May 15, 1991 she speaks before the US Congress, becoming the first British monarch to do so.

.on November 24, 1992, she describes as "annus horribili" for the British monarchy the year that her children Carlos, Andrés and Ana divorced.

.6 May 1994, Together with the French president, François Mitterrand, she inaugurates the tunnel under the English Channel that joins the United Kingdom with the European continent.

.On August 31, 1997 Lady Di, former wife of Prince Charles, dies in a traffic accident in Paris.

.on March 30, 2002 the queen mother dies.

. From May 17 to 20, 2011, she makes her first official visit to the Republic of Ireland, accompanied by Prince Philip of Edinburgh.

.on 6 February 2016 Coinciding with the 64th anniversary of her accession to the throne, her reign becomes the longest in the British monarchy.

.on April 9, 2021, her husband, Prince Philip, dies.
